This free Valentine matching game for kids is a great way to celebrate the holiday in a fun way.
Today, we have a free Valentine matching game for kids to play at home or in the classroom. Each picture showcases the sweet holiday of Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day can be one of the most fun holidays for children. From passing out Valentines with friends to receiving candy and chocolate, it’s a holiday that every kid can enjoy.
Some of my favorite memories from my childhood would be around each holiday when we would do seasonal crafts at school, and I would bake cakes and treats with my mom and siblings at home.
Make this Valentine’s Day a holiday to remember by finding exciting Valentine’s Day crafts and activities to do with your kids and students.
How to play the Valentine matching game:
This set of printables comes with two sheets of pictures. You will want to print two copies of each sheet to make sure each picture has a pair.
For younger kids, you can use less cards to make it easier for them to play. There are 24 cards in total (which would make 48 pieces to the game if you use all of them).
Print out the Valentine’s Day matching game.
I recommend using white cardstock to print because the pieces will have better durability. While you can use regular printer paper; you may be able to see the picture through the back of the paper, making it easier to cheat during the game.
Cut along the lines so each photo is separated.
Mix the cards up and place them all face down.
Take turns turning over two pieces of the game.
If they are a match, keep them and take a second turn.
If they are not a match, turn them face down once again.
Continue to play until all of the matches are found.
Whoever has the most matches by the end of the game is declared the winner!
How to play Valentine Go Fish:
You can also use these game pieces to play a Valentine’s Day version of Go Fish. My youngest child loves to play Go Fish, so we always find new ways to play the game.
If you would like to play Valentine Go Fish, start by mixing up the cards.
Pass out six cards per player. (You will want at least two players in the game). Place the remaining cards face down in a pile.
If you have any matches in your hand of cards, put them to the side.
Take turns asking the other player(s) if they have a certain card that you are holding in your hand.
If the user has the card in their hand, they must give it to you to complete your pair. Then you get to take another turn.
If the user does not have the card in their hand, they must say, “Go Fish!” Then you will pick up a card from the remaining cards deck. It will become the next player’s turn.
The game is over when a player runs out of cards in their hand. Whoever has the most pairs by the end of the game will win!
